Here's the idea behind this one. Rivastigmine (Exelon) works by boosting a brain chemical called acetylcholine, which helps with memory and thinking in Alzheimer's or Parkinson's dementia. Some early lab work hints that European barberry may have a mild opposite (anticholinergic) tug. In theory, that could blunt how well rivastigmine does its job, so you might see less benefit on memory and clarity.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It comes from test-tube studies, not real people, so we truly don't know if it matters at the doses folks actually take. Still, since rivastigmine is treating something important, I'd loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding a barberry or berberine supplement rather than starting it on your own.
