Cyclobenzaprine falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Fennel interacts with.

Theoretically, fennel might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.

In vitro research suggests that fennel inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist with fennel and cyclobenzaprine. Your body uses a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear cyclobenzaprine. In lab dish studies, fennel appears to slow that enzyme down a bit. If that were to happen in real life, cyclobenzaprine could linger longer and build up, which might mean stronger effects like extra drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, or grogginess.

I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This is only test-tube data and hasn't actually been seen in people, so it's more of a theoretical concern. Everyday cooking and tea amounts of fennel are very unlikely to cause trouble. Concentrated fennel supplements or fennel essential oil are where I'd be more careful. If you use those regularly, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Cyclobenzaprine Used For?

Brand names: Cyclobenzaprine, Flexeril, Cycloprine

Cyclobenzaprine tablets and extended-release capsules are used alongside rest and physical therapy to relieve muscle spasm caused by acute, painful musculoskeletal conditions — easing pain, tenderness, and limited movement. This use is intended for short-term treatment only (up to 2–3 weeks).

Tonmya, the sublingual (under-the-tongue) form of cyclobenzaprine, is separately indicated for the treatment of fibromyalgia in adults. It is not the same as the oral tablet or capsule formulations.
