Here's a little wrinkle worth knowing. Dasiglucagon (Zegalogue) is actually a rescue medicine, not a daily diabetes pill. You only use it in an emergency to raise very low blood sugar, since it tells the liver to dump stored sugar into the blood. So even though Fo-ti is filed under interactions with antidiabetes drugs, it works in the opposite direction here.

The concern on file is theoretical and based on pharmacology, not strong human studies. Fo-ti may have a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect, which is the same goal as the rest of your diabetes routine, not something that fights your Zegalogue. If anything, keep your usual emergency plan, and chat with your pharmacist or doctor before starting Fo-ti.

Zegalogue is used to treat severe hypoglycemia — a dangerously low blood sugar episode — in adults and children aged 6 years and older who have diabetes. Severe hypoglycemia is a medical emergency that requires immediate action.

Zegalogue is not a day-to-day diabetes medicine. It is prescribed as an emergency kit to be on hand in case a person with diabetes becomes unresponsive or cannot safely swallow food or juice to raise their blood sugar.
