Theoretically, fo-ti may increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP2C9.

Your body clears Siponimod largely through a liver enzyme called CYP2C9. Lab and animal studies hint that Fo-ti may slow that enzyme down. If that held true in people, less of the drug would be broken down, so Siponimod levels could climb a bit higher than expected. With more drug hanging around, you might notice more of its typical effects, like a slower heart rate (especially when first starting), headache, higher blood pressure, or a stronger dip in your immune cells that raises infection risk.

Here's the honest part: this is theoretical. It has only been seen in test tubes and animals, never confirmed in humans. So I wouldn't panic, but since Siponimod is dosed carefully based on your genetics, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or neurologist before adding Fo-ti.

Theoretically, fo-ti might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research suggests that fo-ti might inhibit CYP3A4. One in vitro study suggests that the degree of CYP3A4 inhibition may depend on the type of fo-ti extract (i.e., the raw plant leads to greater inhibition than extensively processed extracts). However, this evidence conflicts with animal research suggesting that fo-ti does not inhibit CYP3A4. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Mayzent (siponimod). Your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 (along with another one, CYP2C9) to clear this medicine out. Lab studies hint that Fo-ti, especially the raw root, might slow CYP3A4 down. If that happened, siponimod could build up in your system, which may mean a higher chance of side effects like a slow heart rate, dizziness, headache, raised blood pressure, or liver enzyme changes.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's only seen in test-tube research, animal studies actually disagreed, and it has never been reported in a real person. Since siponimod is a sensitive drug, please loop in your neurologist or pharmacist before adding Fo-ti rather than changing anything yourself.

What Is Siponimod Used For?

Mayzent (siponimod) is approved for adults with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS). This includes three specific types: clinically isolated syndrome (a first episode of MS-like symptoms), relapsing-remitting MS (periods of attacks followed by recovery), and active secondary progressive MS (a phase where the disease gradually worsens but still has active relapses).

It is taken by mouth once daily and is intended as a long-term treatment to reduce relapses and slow disease progression.
