Warfarin Sodium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C9 (CYP2C9) SUBSTRATES — the group Fucus Vesiculosus interacts with.
In vitro research shows that fucoidan, a constituent of Fucus vesiculosus, inhibits CYP2C9. This interaction has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with bladderwrack and your warfarin. One compound in the seaweed, called fucoidan, was shown in a test-tube study to block CYP2C9, an enzyme your liver uses to clear warfarin. If that enzyme slows down, warfarin can hang around longer and your blood could get thinned more than intended, which raises the chance of bruising, nosebleeds, or harder-to-stop bleeding.
The important part: this is only lab data and has never been reported in real people, so it's rated minor and theoretical. Still, warfarin is a finicky drug where small shifts matter, and bladderwrack's iodine can also throw off your thyroid (which itself affects warfarin). Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding it, and don't change your warfarin dose on your own.

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for bladderwrack and warfarin. One compound in the seaweed, called fucoidan, slowed down a liver enzyme (CYP3A4) in test-tube studies. Warfarin is partly cleared by that enzyme, so in theory the drug could build up a bit and make your blood thinner than intended. That could mean easier bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding that's harder to stop. Since warfarin has a narrow safety window, even small shifts matter.
That said, this was only seen in lab studies, never reported in real patients, so I wouldn't panic. The bigger concern is actually the high, variable iodine in bladderwrack, which can throw off your thyroid and indirectly affect warfarin. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two, and keep up your regular INR checks.

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS

In vitro evidence suggests that a constituent of Fucus vesiculosus, known as fucoidan, has anticoagulant effects. However, in clinical research, fucoidan does not seem to have significant anticoagulant activity when taken orally, possibly due to poor absorption.

Here's the gist for warfarin (Coumadin) and bladderwrack. Bladderwrack contains a compound called fucoidan that, in a test tube, acts a bit like a blood thinner. The worry on paper is that adding it on top of warfarin could nudge your bleeding risk up, meaning easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or blood that takes longer to stop.
The good news: in actual human studies, fucoidan taken by mouth doesn't seem to thin the blood much, probably because the body barely absorbs it. So this is a theoretical, weak-evidence concern. Still, warfarin is a finicky drug where small swings matter, and bladderwrack's iodine can also affect your thyroid, which indirectly changes how warfarin behaves. Here is the practical picture with bladderwrack and warfarin. Lab (test tube) studies suggest that fucoidan, one of the compounds in bladderwrack, may slow down an enzyme called CYP2C8. In theory, if that enzyme helps clear warfarin, your blood thinner could build up a bit and thin your blood more than intended, raising the chance of easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding that is harder to stop. This has not actually been reported in people, so it is a theoretical concern only.
The bigger issue I would worry about is iodine. Bladderwrack can shift thyroid function, and thyroid changes alone can make warfarin's effect drift up or down. Because warfarin is so sensitive to small changes, please check with your doctor or pharmacist before adding this supplement so your INR can be watched.

Warfarin sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets are both used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs). They are also used to prevent clot-related complications in people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) or who have had a heart valve replaced.
In people who have had a heart attack, warfarin is used to reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, or other clotting events. It does not dissolve an existing clot, but it helps prevent the clot from growing and stops new dangerous clots from forming.
