Here's the short version. Co-Danthrusate combines danthron, a stimulant laxative that gets your bowel moving, with docusate, a stool softener. Gardenia fruit contains a compound called geniposide that, at least in animal studies, seems to have its own laxative pull. So the worry is simply that two things working in the same direction could add up.

If they stack, you might notice more cramping, looser stools, or outright diarrhea, and over time that can mean fluid loss or low potassium. I'll be honest though: this is theoretical, based on lab and animal work, not real human cases, so don't panic. Just don't start gardenia supplements alongside your laxative without checking with your pharmacist or doctor first.
