Glossy Privet and Cefprozil

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Cefprozil and Glossy Privet in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Cefprozil

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Cefprozil is filed under 6 classifications — including organic anion transporter 3 (oat3) substrates, organic anion transporter 1 (oat1) substrates, antibiotic drugs. Glossy Privet has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being lithium (moderate) — and none of Cefprozil’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Glossy Privet — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Cefprozil’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Cefprozil column appears here.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Cefprozil page

“Cefprozil (Cefzil) is a cephalosporin antibiotic, usually a short course for ear, sinus, throat, or skin infections, and three of the 60 supplements on this list warrant real caution even for a week of pills. Activated charcoal can bind the drug and pull it out of your system before it works.”

About Glossy Privet

What is Glossy Privet?

  • Liver and kidney support in traditional medicine
  • Immune support
  • Anti-aging and general tonic
  • Blurred vision and dizziness
  • Premature graying of hair

Glossy Privet (Ligustrum lucidum) is a fruit long used in Traditional Chinese Medicine, often combined with other herbs as a liver and kidney 'tonic.' Most of the research is from laboratory and animal studies, so its benefits in people are not well proven. Because human safety data are limited, talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, and avoid it during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Ligustrum lucidum · Oleaceae · Ripe fruit (berries) · Dried fruit, decoctions (teas), powders, capsules, tinctures, and herbal formulas

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Glossy Privet is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Glossy Privet record says about it on its own.

Glossy Privet: dosing

There is no well-established, standardized dose of Glossy Privet for any condition. Traditional use is usually as part of a multi-herb decoction or formula prepared by a practitioner, rather than as a single supplement.Because products vary widely in strength and quality, the safest approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed the recommended amount.

About Cefprozil

What Is Cefprozil Used For?

Brand name: Cefzil

Cefprozil tablets and oral suspension are both used to treat mild to moderate bacterial infections in adults and children. Approved uses include pharyngitis/tonsillitis (strep throat), acute sinusitis, otitis media (ear infections), acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis, and uncomplicated skin and skin-structure infections.

Cefprozil tablets are also approved for secondary bacterial infection of acute bronchitis. Because antibiotic resistance is a real concern, cefprozil should only be used when the infection is proven or strongly suspected to be caused by bacteria that respond to it.

Most-Reported Side Effects for Cefprozil

From FAERS, the FDA’s public side-effect reporting system (780 reports, all brands). Reports are voluntary and are not proof the drug caused the effect.
