Econazole falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Glucomannan interacts with.

Theoretically, glucomannan may decrease absorption of drugs taken orally.
Due to its viscosity and bulking effects, there is concern that glucomannan can decrease the absorption of oral drugs. A small clinical study in healthy volunteers shows that taking glyburide 2.5 mg plus glucomannan 3.9 grams with breakfast reduces plasma levels of glyburide when compared with breakfast and glyburide alone. In addition, animal research demonstrates this effect on amoxicillin, but shows increased absorption of metronidazole. This mouse model also demonstrates that metronidazole elimination is prolonged, but amoxicillin elimination is enhanced by 38%; glucomannan may also affect the distribution of some drugs. To avoid changes in absorption, take glucomannan 30-60 minutes after taking oral drugs.

Here's a bit of good news. The econazole you're asking about (brand name Spectazole) is a cream you put on your skin to clear up athlete's foot, jock itch, or ringworm. It isn't swallowed, so the concern about glucomannan's thick gel slowing down absorption in your stomach really doesn't apply here.

The interaction on file is about glucomannan's fiber gel possibly grabbing onto oral (swallowed) medicines and lowering how much your body soaks up. A topical antifungal like this works right at the skin, so the fiber can't get in its way. Just keep using your econazole as directed. If you ever take an oral medication too, a smart rule is to take it about 30 to 60 minutes before your glucomannan, and check with your pharmacist if you're unsure.

Glucomannan is a soluble fiber from the konjac root that swells into a gel in your stomach, which may help with mild weight loss, constipation, and modestly lowering cholesterol. What Is Econazole Topical Used For?

Brand name: Spectazole

Econazole nitrate is used to treat interdigital tinea pedis (athlete's foot — the kind that affects the skin between the toes), caused by specific fungi including Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and Epidermophyton floccosum. It is approved for patients 12 years of age and older.

Econazole nitrate cream is also used for tinea cruris (jock itch), tinea corporis (ringworm), tinea versicolor (a patchy skin discoloration caused by yeast), and cutaneous candidiasis (a skin infection caused by Candida yeast).
