Adalimumab falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Greater Celandine interacts with.

Preliminary clinical research suggests that taking a specific semi-synthetic derivative of the greater celandine constituent chelidonine (Ukrain; not available in North America) might stimulate immune responses in cancer patients. Theoretically, taking greater celandine might decrease the effects of immunosuppressive therapy. Immunosuppressant drugs include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), and other corticosteroids (glucocorticoids).

Here's the thinking on this pairing. Humira (adalimumab) works by calming down an overactive immune system, which is exactly what you want for conditions like rheumatoid arthritis or Crohn's disease. The concern with greater celandine is that one of its compounds (chelidonine) has been studied for actually stimulating immune activity. If it nudges your immune system in the opposite direction, it could theoretically work against what Humira is trying to do, meaning more joint pain, swelling, or gut flare-ups slipping back in.

I want to be honest: this is a theoretical worry based on how the herb behaves, not on solid studies with Humira itself. Separately, greater celandine has been tied to serious liver injury, so most pharmacists steer people away from it regardless. Please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining them.

What Is Adalimumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Humira

Adalimumab injection treats a range of moderate-to-severe inflammatory conditions in adults and some children. These include rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, plaque psoriasis, hidradenitis suppurativa (a chronic skin condition), and non-infectious uveitis (inflammation inside the eye). It is also approved to treat polyarticular juvenile idiopathic arthritis in patients as young as 2 years old, and Crohn's disease in children 6 years and older.

Yuflyma is additionally approved for non-infectious uveitis in pediatric patients 2 years and older, and for hidradenitis suppurativa in patients 12 years and older. Not every brand or formulation is approved for every condition listed — your prescriber will match the right product to your specific diagnosis.
