Here's the thing about guar gum and your altretamine (Hexalen): this fiber turns into a thick gel in your stomach and gut, and that gel can grab onto pills and slow or lessen how much of them your body actually absorbs. Studies have shown this with drugs like metformin and penicillin. Since altretamine is taken by mouth, there's a reasonable chance guar gum could blunt how much you take in.

With a cancer medicine, you really don't want less of it reaching your bloodstream, since that could mean it works less well against the ovarian cancer. To keep things safe, please don't add a guar gum supplement on your own. Talk with your oncology pharmacist or doctor first so your timing and treatment stay on track.
