Here's the good news: the interaction on file is about guar gum slowing the absorption of oral medicines you swallow. Basiliximab (Simulect) isn't a pill. It's given as an injection into a vein, usually right around the time of your kidney transplant, by your transplant team. Because it goes straight into your bloodstream and never passes through your stomach or intestines, guar gum's gel cannot block or slow its absorption.

So in practical terms, this fiber and your basiliximab don't bump into each other. That said, transplant patients often take several other oral medicines (like anti-rejection pills) that guar gum could affect, so please run your full list past your pharmacist or transplant team before starting a fiber supplement.

What Is Basiliximab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Simulect

Simulect (basiliximab) is used to prevent acute rejection of a transplanted kidney. It is always used alongside other immunosuppressive medicines — specifically cyclosporine and corticosteroids — not on its own.

Simulect is approved for use in adults and in pediatric patients undergoing renal (kidney) transplantation. Its effectiveness for preventing rejection in other types of solid organ transplants has not been established.
