The interaction we have on file deals with guar gum slowing the absorption of medications you swallow, since the fiber forms a gel in your gut that can trap pills before they're absorbed. But the fluocinolone you're asking about (brands like Synalar) is a topical cream, ointment, or solution that you apply directly to your skin. It never travels through your stomach or intestines, so guar gum can't interfere with how it works.

In other words, your skin treatment for eczema or psoriasis should keep doing its job normally. If you happen to take an oral form of any medication, that's where spacing guar gum 30 to 60 minutes apart matters. When in doubt, your pharmacist is happy to double-check your specific products.

What Is Fluocinolone Topical Used For?

Brand names: Synalar, Retisert

Fluocinolone Acetonide Topical Oil, 0.01% is used on the skin to treat atopic dermatitis (eczema) in adults. It is also approved to treat moderate to severe atopic dermatitis in children 3 months of age and older, for up to 4 weeks.

It should not be used on the face, underarms, or groin unless a doctor specifically directs it, and should never be applied to the diaper area.
