Guar gum forms a thick gel in your gut, and that gel can grab onto pills and slow or reduce how much of the drug actually gets absorbed. With an oral cancer medicine like gilteritinib, less absorption could mean less of the drug reaching your bloodstream, and you really want full strength here since it's treating leukemia.

This is based on studies with other oral drugs (like metformin and penicillin), not gilteritinib specifically, so it's a reasonable caution rather than a proven problem. A simple fix is timing: take your gilteritinib first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before the guar gum. Given how important this medication is, please run any fiber supplement past your oncology team or pharmacist before starting it.

Xospata (gilteritinib) is used to treat adults with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) — a fast-growing blood cancer — when the cancer has come back after treatment (relapsed) or stopped responding to treatment (refractory). It is only for patients whose leukemia cells carry a specific genetic change called a FLT3 mutation, which must be confirmed by an FDA-approved test before starting treatment.
