Here's the simple version: guar gum is a soluble fiber that turns into a thick gel in your stomach and gut. That gel can grab onto pills and slow or lessen how much of them your body actually soaks up. With Mibefradil (Posicor), a blood pressure and chest pain (angina) medicine, that could mean a bit less of the drug gets absorbed, so it may not control your blood pressure or angina as well as it should.

This is moderate, not dangerous, and easy to manage. The usual tip is to space them out: take guar gum about 30 to 60 minutes after your Mibefradil, and always with plenty of water. Food amounts of fiber are unlikely to matter, but concentrated supplements can. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before starting guar gum.
