Here's the gist with Tagrisso (osimertinib) and guar gum. Guar gum is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and once it's in your gut it can trap pills and slow how much medicine actually gets absorbed. We've seen this happen with drugs like penicillin and metformin. Osimertinib is taken by mouth, so in theory the same thing could nudge its absorption down a little, which might mean you get less benefit from it.

This is a cancer medicine where steady levels really matter, so I wouldn't want to risk that. The easy fix is timing: take your osimertinib first, then wait at least 30 to 60 minutes before any guar gum supplement. Food-level amounts are unlikely to cause trouble, but please run this by your oncology pharmacist or doctor before adding any fiber product.

About Osimertinib

What Is Osimertinib Used For?

Brand name: Tagrisso

Tagrisso is used to treat adults with non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) whose tumors have specific EGFR mutations — either an exon 19 deletion or an exon 21 L858R mutation — confirmed by an FDA-approved test. It is used in several settings: after surgery to reduce the risk of cancer returning (adjuvant therapy), for locally advanced stage III NSCLC that has not progressed after chemoradiation, and as a first-line treatment for locally advanced or metastatic NSCLC (including in combination with pemetrexed and platinum-based chemotherapy).

Tagrisso is also approved for adults with metastatic NSCLC that carries a specific resistance mutation called T790M, when the cancer has stopped responding to another EGFR-targeted therapy.
