Here's some good news that takes the pressure off: paclitaxel (Taxol, Abraxane) is given as an infusion into your vein, not as a pill you swallow. The interaction on file is about guar gum slowing the absorption of oral drugs in the gut. Since paclitaxel goes straight into your bloodstream, it skips the stomach and intestines entirely, so guar gum's gel-forming fiber has nothing to grab onto here.

In short, I wouldn't expect guar gum to weaken your paclitaxel treatment. That said, anyone going through chemotherapy should clear every supplement with their oncology team first, because some affect blood counts, nausea, or how you tolerate treatment. Please check with your cancer doctor or pharmacist before starting guar gum.

Guar gum is a soluble, gel-forming fiber from the guar bean that may modestly help with cholesterol, blood sugar, and bowel regularity. It is generally safe in food amounts, but concentrated supplements can cause gas, bloating, and a risk of throat or gut blockage if not taken with enough water. Always take it with plenty of fluid and check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Paclitaxel (with albumin) Injection

What Is Paclitaxel (with albumin) Injection Used For?

Brand names: Taxol, Abraxane

Paclitaxel Protein-Bound Particles for Injectable Suspension (Albumin-Bound) is used to treat three types of cancer. It treats metastatic breast cancer in patients whose prior chemotherapy has stopped working or who relapsed within 6 months of completing adjuvant (post-surgery) chemotherapy. It is also used as a first-line treatment for locally advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) — given together with carboplatin — in patients who cannot have surgery or radiation therapy.

Additionally, it is approved as a first-line treatment for metastatic adenocarcinoma of the pancreas, given in combination with gemcitabine. All three uses apply specifically to Paclitaxel Protein-Bound Particles for Injectable Suspension (Albumin-Bound), including the brands Abraxane and related albumin-bound formulations.
