Here's the thing with trientine: it's a copper-binding medicine for Wilson's disease, and it's already known to be picky about absorption. Food, minerals, and other things in your gut can grab onto it and keep your body from soaking it up. Guar gum is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and that same gel can slow or reduce how much trientine actually gets absorbed.

If less trientine gets in, it may not control copper as well over time, which is the whole point of taking it. To keep them from mixing in your stomach, separate them. A common approach is to take guar gum at least an hour or two away from your trientine dose. Please run the exact timing by your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
