Here's the simple version: guar gum is a thick, gel-forming fiber. When you swallow it, it can grab onto pills sitting in your stomach and gut and slow down how much of them gets absorbed. With Rinvoq (upadacitinib), the worry is that less of your dose makes it into your bloodstream, which could make it work less well for your joint pain, swelling, or eczema flare.

This isn't a dangerous reaction, just a timing issue, and the evidence comes mostly from other oral drugs like metformin rather than Rinvoq itself. An easy fix is spacing them out: take your Rinvoq first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before your guar gum. Since Rinvoq matters for keeping symptoms controlled, run this plan by your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

Upadacitinib is approved for adults and some children with moderate-to-severe inflammatory conditions when other treatments haven't worked well enough. It targets overactive immune signaling that drives these diseases.
