Hesperidin and Acetaminophen, Caffeine, Chlorpheniramine, Hydrocodone, Phenylephrine

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

CNS DEPRESSANTS

Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Caffeine, Chlorpheniramine, Hydrocodone, Phenylephrine

Acetaminophen, Caffeine, Chlorpheniramine, Hydrocodone, Phenylephrine falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Hesperidin interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use with CNS depressants may cause additive sedative effects.
Animal studies show that hesperidin has sedative effects, due to opioid receptor activity and can increase sedation when used with diazepam. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

This combination product (Hycomine Compound) already has two ingredients that can make you drowsy: hydrocodone, an opioid, and chlorpheniramine, a sedating antihistamine. The concern with hesperidin is simply additive: in animal studies, it acted on opioid receptors and seemed to add to sedation when paired with calming medicines. So in theory, stacking it on top of this product could leave you feeling a bit more sleepy, foggy, or slowed down than usual.

That said, this is only seen in lab and animal research, not in people, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you notice extra drowsiness, dizziness, or slowed breathing, that's worth attention. Check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them, and never adjust your medicine on your own.
