Hesperidin + Minocycline
Minocycline brand names: Vectrin, Dynacin, Minocin, Minocin IV, Solodyn, and others.
Minocycline falls into 2 drug categories that Hesperidin can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, hesperidin might inhibit P-glycoprotein-mediated drug efflux and potentially increase levels of drugs that are substrates of P-glycoprotein.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Hesperidin interacts with whole categories of medication. Minocycline falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Hesperidin in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Minocycline
Minocycline falls under P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES — the group Hesperidin interacts with.
In vitro research shows that hesperidin can inhibit P-glycoprotein efflux. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for minocycline and hesperidin. Your body uses a kind of cellular bouncer called P-glycoprotein to push certain drugs back out of cells and into your gut to be eliminated. In lab dishes, hesperidin appears to slow that bouncer down. If that happened in people, a little more minocycline could stay in your system, which in theory might mean more of its usual side effects, things like dizziness, lightheadedness, nausea, or stomach upset.
The important part: this is only seen in test-tube and animal studies, not in actual people, so it's very theoretical and not something I'd lose sleep over. Casual citrus in your diet is a non-issue. If you take concentrated hesperidin supplements, just mention it to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on things.

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
2 of 2Minocycline also falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS.
Animal research suggests that hesperetin, a bioflavonoid aglycone derivative of hesperidin, may have antiplatelet activity.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest picture for these two. The concern on file is really about hesperidin's possible effect on bleeding, since lab and animal work hints it may make platelets a little less sticky. That matters most when you pair it with blood thinners. Minocycline itself isn't a blood thinner, so this particular flagged interaction is mostly a category note rather than a strong warning for your antibiotic.
Honestly, this is theoretical, based on pharmacology and animal data, not real-world reports. Normal citrus amounts almost certainly won't cause trouble. If you're also taking an actual anticoagulant or antiplatelet drug, or you notice easy bruising or unusual bleeding, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before combining concentrated hesperidin supplements.
- Jin, Y. R., Han, X. H., Zhang, Y. H., Lee, J. J., Lim, Y., Chung, J. H., and Yun, Y. P. Antiplatelet activity of hesperetin, a bioflavonoid, is mainly mediated by inhibition of PLC-gamma2 phosphorylation and cyclooxygenase-1 activity. Atherosclerosis 200
What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Minocycline page
“This is one of the longer interaction lists I review, and with minocycline it earns real care rather than a shrug. Most entries pair this tetracycline antibiotic, taken for acne and other infections, with supplements that raise bleeding risk, and a second sizable group, beer and wine included, can add strain on the liver.”

About Hesperidin
What is Hesperidin?
- Hemorrhoids
- Varicose veins and poor circulation
- Leg swelling (venous insufficiency)
- High blood pressure
- Antioxidant support
Hesperidin is a flavonoid found in citrus fruits that is often combined with diosmin and used for vein and circulation problems like hemorrhoids and varicose veins. Some evidence supports these uses, but data for many other claims is limited. It is generally well tolerated, but pregnant and breastfeeding people should avoid it because safety has not been established.
About Minocycline
What Is Minocycline Used For?
Brand names: Vectrin, Dynacin, Minocin, Minocin IV, Solodyn, Acnamino MR, Minocin MR, Sebomin MR, Aknemin, Arestin Miscrosperes, Amzeeq, Zilxi
Oral and intravenous minocycline products treat many serious bacterial infections, including Rocky Mountain spotted fever, respiratory tract infections, sexually transmitted infections such as lymphogranuloma venereum and nongonococcal urethritis, plague, cholera, brucellosis, tularemia, and others caused by susceptible organisms. MINOCIN Intravenous is used when oral therapy is not adequate or tolerated.
Extended-release oral minocycline tablets are indicated specifically for inflammatory lesions of moderate to severe acne vulgaris in patients 12 years and older — not for treating infections. AMZEEQ (topical foam) treats inflammatory lesions of moderate to severe acne vulgaris in patients 9 years and older. ZILXI (topical foam) and EMROSI (oral capsule) are indicated for inflammatory lesions of rosacea in adults. ARESTIN (oral powder placed by a dental professional) is used alongside scaling and root planing to reduce pocket depth in adult periodontitis.
