CNS DEPRESSANTS
Why this applies to Acetaminophen, Oxycodone
Acetaminophen, Oxycodone falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Hesperidin interacts with.
Animal studies show that hesperidin has sedative effects, due to opioid receptor activity and can increase sedation when used with diazepam. This effect has not been reported in humans.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Percocet (acetaminophen plus oxycodone). The oxycodone part is an opioid, so it already works on your brain to ease pain but also to slow you down, causing drowsiness, foggy thinking, and slower breathing. In animal studies, hesperidin seemed to have its own mild sedative effect by acting on opioid receptors. The worry is that stacking the two could, in theory, deepen that sleepiness.
I want to be honest though: this comes from lab and animal research only, and has not been reported in people. So I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you notice extra grogginess or feel unusually out of it, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.
