Hesperidin and Pramlintide

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Pramlintide and Hesperidin in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Pramlintide

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Pramlintide is filed under a single classification — antidiabetes drugs. Hesperidin has documented interactions with 7 drug classes — the most serious being anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs (moderate), antihypertensive drugs (moderate) and celiprolol (celicard) (moderate) — and none of Pramlintide’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Hesperidin Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Pramlintide. It is the side-effect record for Hesperidin on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Hesperidin, this list is the first place to look.

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Hesperidin — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Pramlintide’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Pramlintide column appears here.

Hesperidin in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Pregnancy And Lactation Likely Safe

When used orally in amounts found in foods.

Pregnancy And Lactation Possibly Safe

When used orally in doses of up to 100 mg daily for 30 days in combination with diosmin. Some evidence suggests that taking this combination may be associated with placental insufficiency when used during the third trimester of pregnancy; however, the combination does not seem to induce fetal abnormalities, retard fetal growth, increase the risk of intrauterine death, or affect birth weight. Also, when breastfeeding, this combination does not seem to affect infant growth or feeding.

What Pramlintide Is Prescribed For, and What Hesperidin Has Been Studied For

These two come up together because they touch the same health topic — not because they do the same job. Pramlintide is a prescription medicine with approved uses on its FDA label. Hesperidin is a supplement: what follows is what researchers have looked at it for, and how strong that evidence is.

Pramlintide is prescribed for: SymlinPen (pramlintide) is used as an add-on treatment for adults with type 1 or type 2 diabetes who already use mealtime insulin but still haven't reached their target blood sugar levels — even with optimal insulin therapy. It is not a replacement for insulin. It works alongside insulin, given right before major meals, to reduce the spike in blood sugar that happens after eating.

Hesperidin has been studied for:

  • Diabetes studied, not established Hesperidin has been studied for this. Natural Medicines rates the evidence: Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate Read what the research shows

    Hesperidin for diabetes

It is unclear if oral hesperidin is beneficial for diabetes.

Effectiveness ratings and the research summaries above are the verbatim record from the Natural Medicines database, which grades evidence from “Effective” down to “Insufficient Reliable Evidence To Rate”. A rating below the top of that scale means researchers have looked at it — not that it works, and never that it can stand in for a prescribed medicine. Do not stop or replace Pramlintide on your own; if you are taking Hesperidin for the same health topic, tell your prescriber, especially if the medicine is being adjusted to a target.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Pramlintide

This page covers Hesperidin only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Pramlintide page lists 239 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Siberian Cocklebur (major), Acai (moderate), African Wild Potato (moderate), Agaricus Mushroom (moderate) and Agmatine (moderate).

By severity: 1 major · 208 moderate · 30 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Pramlintide page

“The single entry rated major on the pramlintide (Symlin) list is Siberian cocklebur, which has caused severe hypoglycemia in humans, not just in lab studies. That matters more than usual here because pramlintide is injected at mealtimes alongside insulin, and a dangerous low is already the main hazard of that pairing.”

About Hesperidin

What is Hesperidin?

Hesperidin
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Varicose veins and poor circulation
  • Leg swelling (venous insufficiency)
  • High blood pressure
  • Antioxidant support

Hesperidin is a flavonoid found in citrus fruits that is often combined with diosmin and used for vein and circulation problems like hemorrhoids and varicose veins. Some evidence supports these uses, but data for many other claims is limited. It is generally well tolerated, but pregnant and breastfeeding people should avoid it because safety has not been established.

Rutaceae · Fruit and peel of citrus fruits (especially oranges and lemons) · Capsules, tablets, often combined with diosmin or vitamin C as a bioflavonoid complex

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Hesperidin is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Hesperidin record says about it on its own.

Hesperidin: dosing

There is no official standardized dose of hesperidin. The amount used in research varies depending on the product and whether it is combined with diosmin or other ingredients. The best approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed the recommended amount.
