Horsemint and Ramelteon

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Ramelteon and Horsemint in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Horsemint at all — not against Ramelteon, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

What Ramelteon’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Horsemint. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Ramelteon’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both.

  • Trouble sleeping mentioned in 16.9% of FDA reports for Ramelteon
  • Drowsiness mentioned in 5.7% of FDA reports for Ramelteon
  • Tiredness mentioned in 3.9% of FDA reports for Ramelteon
  • Dizziness mentioned in 3.7% of FDA reports for Ramelteon
  • Nausea mentioned in 4.6% of FDA reports for Ramelteon
  • Headache

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Ramelteon. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 7,279 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Ramelteon that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Horsemint’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Horsemint side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Horsemint has no side effects.

“Ramelteon (Rozerem) is a prescription sleep aid, and its 228 interacting supplements call for real care, starting with the nine rated major. The frustrating part is that the things sleepless people typically reach for, kava, CBD, a glass of wine before bed, sit at the heart of the problem.”

About Horsemint

What is Horsemint?

Horsemint
  • Digestive upset
  • Coughs and colds
  • Bloating and gas
  • Fever (traditional)
  • Antimicrobial (folk use)

Horsemint (Monarda punctata) is an aromatic North American mint used traditionally as a tea or essential oil for digestive and respiratory complaints. Strong human research is lacking, so its benefits are not well proven. Its essential oil contains thymol and can be irritating, so use it carefully and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

Monarda punctata · Lamiaceae · Leaves, flowering tops, and essential oil · Tea, dried herb, tincture, essential oil

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Horsemint is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Horsemint record says about it on its own.

Horsemint: dosing

There is no standardized or proven dose for horsemint. It has not been studied well enough to recommend a specific amount for any condition. If you choose to use a horsemint product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed them. Essential oil should be diluted and used only for its intended purpose, never swallowed.
