Drug & supplement interaction

Inosine + Naloxone

Naloxone brand names: Narcan, Zimhi, Rivive.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Inosine and Naloxone in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Inosine and Naloxone

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Naloxone and Inosine in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Inosine safety at a glance

Inosine overall Use caution Inosine raises uric acid, which may be a problem for people with gout or kidney issues.
Pregnancy Avoid There is not enough safety information, so it is best avoided during pregnancy.
Breastfeeding Avoid Safety while breastfeeding is unknown, so avoid use.

Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Naloxone

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Naloxone is filed under a single classification. Inosine has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being antigout drugs (moderate) — and none of Naloxone’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Inosine and Naloxone May Share Several of the Same Side Effects

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so taking both can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do. One of them is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Naloxone

This page covers Inosine only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Naloxone page lists 3 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: 1,4-butanediol (moderate), Gamma Butyrolactone (gbl) (moderate) and Gamma-hydroxybutyrate (ghb) (moderate).

By severity: 3 moderate.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Naloxone page

“The list of supplements that interact with naloxone, the emergency spray or injection (Narcan, Zimhi, Rivive) that reverses opioid overdoses, is short and unusual. All three entries are forms of the same substance: gamma-hydroxybutyrate (GHB) and two chemicals the body converts into it, GBL and 1,4-butanediol.”

About Inosine

What is Inosine?

  • Athletic performance and energy
  • Multiple sclerosis (raising uric acid)
  • Parkinson's disease (raising uric acid)
  • General health and recovery

Inosine is a nucleoside (a building block of DNA and RNA) that the body makes on its own and is also sold as a supplement, mostly marketed for athletic performance. Solid evidence that it boosts exercise performance is lacking, and because it raises uric acid levels, it may pose risks for people with gout or kidney problems. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it.

Not applicable; inosine is a naturally occurring compound (a nucleoside), not a plant part · Capsules, tablets, powder

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Inosine is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Inosine record says about it on its own.

Inosine: dosing

There is no well-established, standardized dose of inosine. Amounts used in studies have varied, and there is no proven safe or effective dose for general use.If you choose to use an inosine product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed the recommended amount. Do not assume that taking more will give better results.

About Naloxone Injection

What Is Naloxone Injection Used For?

Brand names: Narcan, Zimhi, Rivive

Naloxone Hydrochloride injection is used for the emergency treatment of known or suspected opioid overdose — reversing dangerous slowing of breathing and loss of consciousness caused by opioids. It is also approved for use in pediatric patients of all ages.

Naloxone Hydrochloride injection is additionally indicated specifically for military personnel and chemical incident responders: for emergency treatment of patients 12 and older where high-potency opioids such as fentanyl analogues have been used as a chemical weapon, and for temporary protection against breathing and nervous system depression when entering an area contaminated with such opioids. Zimhi (naloxone HCl) is a pre-filled, single-dose injectable product approved for intramuscular or subcutaneous use in known or suspected opioid overdose.
