Here's the simple version: karaya gum is a bulky fiber that swells into a gel when it hits water in your gut. If you swallow it at the same time as your brompheniramine, that gel can trap some of the antihistamine and keep your body from absorbing all of it. In theory, you might get a little less symptom relief, so your sneezing, runny nose, or itchy eyes might not calm down as well.

The good news is this is a minor, theoretical concern based on how fiber works, not strong real-world reports. An easy fix is timing: take your brompheniramine first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before the karaya gum. If you have questions, your pharmacist can help you space things out.
