Here's some good news to put your mind at ease. Iodixanol (Visipaque) is a contrast dye given through a vein for imaging scans, not a pill you swallow. Because it doesn't pass through your stomach or intestines, a bulk-forming fiber like karaya gum has no real way to grab onto it or change how much your body absorbs.

The interaction on file is a general, theoretical one for oral medicines, where karaya gum can swell up and slightly slow or alter absorption in the gut. That just doesn't apply to an injected contrast agent. Still, it's always smart to mention every supplement you take to your doctor or pharmacist before any scan, just so they have the full picture.

Karaya gum is a natural plant gum from the Sterculia tree that is mostly used as a bulk-forming laxative and as a thickener or adhesive in food, dental, and ostomy products. As a fiber-type laxative it may help with occasional constipation, but high-quality evidence is limited, and it should be taken with plenty of water to avoid choking or blockage. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have swallowing problems or bowel conditions.
