Here's some good news that takes the pressure off: lepirudin (Refludan) isn't a pill you swallow. It's a blood thinner given by injection or IV drip in a hospital setting, usually to treat clotting problems. Because karaya gum only acts on things sitting in your gut, and lepirudin never travels through your stomach or intestines, this fiber laxative shouldn't change how lepirudin works.

The interaction on file is really aimed at oral medications, where bulky fiber can grab onto a pill and shift how much gets absorbed. Since lepirudin bypasses all of that, this is a theoretical, low-concern pairing for you. Still, if you're on a blood thinner, always run any new supplement past your pharmacist or doctor first.

Karaya gum is a natural plant gum from the Sterculia tree that is mostly used as a bulk-forming laxative and as a thickener or adhesive in food, dental, and ostomy products. As a fiber-type laxative it may help with occasional constipation, but high-quality evidence is limited, and it should be taken with plenty of water to avoid choking or blockage. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have swallowing problems or bowel conditions.
