Here's some good news that will probably put your mind at ease. The malathion you're asking about (brand name Ovide) is a lotion you apply to your scalp to kill head lice. It isn't swallowed, so a fiber laxative like karaya gum working inside your gut really has no realistic way to bump into it.

The interaction on file is a very general caution about bulk-forming fibers possibly slowing or changing how oral (swallowed) medicines get absorbed. It's rated minor and is only theoretical. Since malathion lotion stays on your skin and hair, that concern doesn't apply here. If you ever take a different medicine by mouth, a simple habit is to take it 30 to 60 minutes before your karaya gum. When in doubt, your pharmacist is happy to double-check.

Karaya gum is a natural plant gum from the Sterculia tree that is mostly used as a bulk-forming laxative and as a thickener or adhesive in food, dental, and ostomy products. As a fiber-type laxative it may help with occasional constipation, but high-quality evidence is limited, and it should be taken with plenty of water to avoid choking or blockage. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have swallowing problems or bowel conditions.
