Here's the practical concern with pairing karaya gum and your Roxithromycin (an antibiotic). Karaya gum is a bulky fiber that swells into a gel in your gut. When that gel is sitting there at the same time you swallow your antibiotic, it can physically trap some of the drug and keep your body from absorbing the full dose. With an antibiotic, getting less than the intended amount matters, because you want enough in your bloodstream to fully clear the infection.

The good news: this is a theoretical, minor concern based on how fiber behaves, not strong real-world data. An easy fix is timing. Take your Roxithromycin first, then wait 30 to 60 minutes before the karaya gum. If you have questions, your pharmacist can help you space them safely.

Karaya gum is a natural plant gum from the Sterculia tree that is mostly used as a bulk-forming laxative and as a thickener or adhesive in food, dental, and ostomy products. As a fiber-type laxative it may help with occasional constipation, but high-quality evidence is limited, and it should be taken with plenty of water to avoid choking or blockage. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have swallowing problems or bowel conditions.
