Brand name: Codeine

Codeine Sulfate tablets are used to manage mild to moderate pain in adults when non-opioid pain treatments have not worked or are not tolerated. It is only appropriate when an opioid is truly needed.

Because of the serious risks of addiction, misuse, overdose, and death, codeine is reserved for patients whose pain cannot be managed adequately with other options. It is not a first-choice pain reliever.
