Why this applies to Cloxacillin Sodium
Cloxacillin Sodium falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Lacticaseibacillus Rhamnosus interacts with.
L. rhamnosus preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. rhamnosus preparations by at least two hours.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: cloxacillin is an antibiotic, and it doesn't care whether bacteria are the bad kind or the friendly probiotic kind. If you swallow your L. rhamnosus at the same time as your cloxacillin, the antibiotic can wipe out a chunk of those live probiotic organisms before they ever get to work. So this isn't about the antibiotic becoming dangerous or your side effects changing. Your cloxacillin will still treat your infection the same way. It's the probiotic that may lose its punch.
An easy fix is to space them out. Take your L. rhamnosus about two hours apart from your cloxacillin dose so they aren't fighting in your stomach at once. This is a theoretical, common-sense concern, not a strict rule, so check with your pharmacist if you want to fine-tune the timing.
