Theoretically, taking Levilactobacillus brevis with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. brevis.
Levilactobacillus brevis preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. brevis preparations by at least two hours.

Here's the simple version: telavancin (Vibativ) is a strong antibiotic that kills bacteria, and the probiotic Levilactobacillus brevis is itself a live, helpful bacterium. So the worry runs in one direction. The antibiotic doesn't get weaker or stronger here. Instead, telavancin may kill off a good chunk of the probiotic organisms, which can make the supplement less useful while you're being treated.

The good news is this concern is mostly theoretical, based on how the two work rather than hard human studies. Also keep in mind telavancin is given by IV in a hospital or clinic, so your care team is already managing your medications. If you want to keep taking the probiotic, ask your pharmacist or doctor about spacing it out, since separating them by a couple of hours may help.

Levilactobacillus brevis (formerly Lactobacillus brevis) is a lactic acid bacterium found in fermented foods like sauerkraut, pickles, and kimchi, and is used as a probiotic. Early research suggests possible benefits for gut and immune health, but strong human evidence is still limited. It is generally well tolerated in healthy people, but anyone with a weakened immune system or serious illness should talk to a doctor first.

About Telavancin Injection

What Is Telavancin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Vibativ

Vibativ (telavancin) injection is used to treat two types of serious bacterial infections in adults. The first is complicated skin and skin structure infections (cSSSI) — deep or serious skin infections caused by certain gram-positive bacteria, including both methicillin-susceptible and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), as well as some Streptococcus and Enterococcus species.

Vibativ is also approved for hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia (HABP) and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (VABP) caused by susceptible Staphylococcus aureus. For pneumonia, Vibativ should only be used when other treatments are not suitable. It is not meant for infections that are not caused by bacteria, and it should only be used when an infection is confirmed or strongly suspected to be bacterial.
