Telavancin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Bifidobacterium Breve interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium breve with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. breve.
Since B. breve preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. breve preparations by at least 2 hours.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with this pairing: it's not your telavancin that's at risk, it's the probiotic. Telavancin is a powerful antibiotic that kills bacteria, and it can't tell the difference between the bacteria causing your infection and the friendly Bifidobacterium breve in your supplement. So taking them at the same time may simply wipe out a good chunk of those live probiotic organisms before they ever get to work.

This is a theoretical concern based on how these products behave, not something tied to dangerous side effects. Your telavancin will still do its job. If you want the probiotic to have a fair shot, a simple fix is to space them out. Check with your pharmacist or doctor on timing that fits your treatment.

About Telavancin Injection

What Is Telavancin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Vibativ

Vibativ (telavancin) injection is used to treat two types of serious bacterial infections in adults. The first is complicated skin and skin structure infections (cSSSI) — deep or serious skin infections caused by certain gram-positive bacteria, including both methicillin-susceptible and methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), as well as some Streptococcus and Enterococcus species.

Vibativ is also approved for hospital-acquired bacterial pneumonia (HABP) and ventilator-associated bacterial pneumonia (VABP) caused by susceptible Staphylococcus aureus. For pneumonia, Vibativ should only be used when other treatments are not suitable. It is not meant for infections that are not caused by bacteria, and it should only be used when an infection is confirmed or strongly suspected to be bacterial.
