Tobramycin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Bifidobacterium Breve interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Bifidobacterium breve with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of B. breve.
Since B. breve preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and B. breve preparations by at least 2 hours.

Here's the simple version: this interaction works against your probiotic, not your antibiotic. Tobramycin is a powerful antibiotic that kills bacteria, and Bifidobacterium breve is a live, friendly bacterium. If you take them at the same time, the tobramycin may wipe out a good chunk of those probiotic organisms before they can do anything useful. Your tobramycin will still work just fine for your infection.

This is a theory based on how the two work, not strong human studies, so don't be alarmed. If you want the probiotic to have a fair shot, a common suggestion is to space them at least 2 hours apart. Tobramycin is usually given by injection or inhaler, so timing is easy to plan with your pharmacist or doctor.

Tobramycin Injection is used to treat serious and life-threatening bacterial infections caused by susceptible bacteria. It is approved for adults and children for infections of the blood (septicemia), lungs and airways, brain and spinal cord (meningitis), abdomen, skin, bones, and urinary tract.

Because antibiotic resistance is a growing concern, Tobramycin Injection should only be used when there is a proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection. Your care team will use culture and lab results to confirm it is the right choice.
