PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS
Why this applies to Delafloxacin (Oral)
Delafloxacin (Oral) falls under PHOTOSENSITIZING DRUGS — the group Lime interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Baxdela (delafloxacin): fluoroquinolone antibiotics like this one can already make your skin more sensitive to sunlight, so you may sunburn faster than usual. Certain compounds in lime, especially the oils found in concentrated lime essential oil, can also boost sun sensitivity. Put together, the worry is that your skin could react more strongly to UV light, leading to an exaggerated sunburn or rash on exposed areas.
I want to be honest about the evidence though. This concern comes only from lab-type studies, and it really centers on concentrated lime oil applied to skin, not the splash of lime in your drink or food. Cooking and culinary amounts are very unlikely to matter. Still, while on delafloxacin it's smart to use sunscreen and limit strong sun. Check with your pharmacist if you use lime oil products.

About Lime
What is Lime?
- Source of vitamin C
- Digestive upset
- Skin care
- Mood and aromatherapy
- Flavoring and food preservation
Lime is a common citrus fruit and a good natural source of vitamin C and plant antioxidants. As a food it is generally safe and enjoyed by most people, but evidence that lime treats any specific health condition is limited. Use the essential oil with care, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated lime products for health reasons.
