Lime + Rifampin
Rifampin brand names: Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifadin Injection, Rofactor.
Lime has a moderate interaction with Rifampin. Animal research shows that phenolics in lime juice inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Rifampin
Rifampin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Lime interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with this pairing. Your body partly clears rifampin using a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Some lab and animal research suggests the plant compounds in lime juice can slow that enzyme down a bit. In theory, slowing it could let a little more rifampin linger in your system, which might nudge up its usual effects, like stomach upset, or the harmless orange-red color it gives to urine, sweat, and tears.
I want to be honest, though: this is only seen in rats given large amounts of lime juice, so the evidence is weak. A squeeze of lime on your food is very unlikely to cause trouble. Before using concentrated lime products or essential oil, just run it past your pharmacist or doctor.

About Lime
What is Lime?
- Source of vitamin C
- Digestive upset
- Skin care
- Mood and aromatherapy
- Flavoring and food preservation
Lime is a common citrus fruit and a good natural source of vitamin C and plant antioxidants. As a food it is generally safe and enjoyed by most people, but evidence that lime treats any specific health condition is limited. Use the essential oil with care, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated lime products for health reasons.
About Rifampin
What Is Rifampin Used For?
Brand names: Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifadin Injection, Rofactor
Rifampin treats all forms of tuberculosis (TB). It is almost always used in combination with other antibiotics — your doctor will build a multi-drug regimen tailored to your infection. Treatment usually runs for at least 6 months total.
Rifampin is also used to clear Neisseria meningitidis bacteria from the nose and throat in people who carry the germ without being sick themselves. It is not used to treat active meningococcal disease. The intravenous (IV) forms — Rifadin IV, Rifadin IV NOVAPLUS, and the injectable form of Rifampin — are specifically indicated when a patient cannot take the drug by mouth.

Natural Medicines records Rifampin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Lime — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
