Probiotics + Rifampin
Rifampin brand names: Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifadin Injection, Rofactor.
Probiotics has a moderate interaction with Rifampin. Theoretically, taking antibiotic drugs with certain probiotics might decrease the effectiveness of probiotics.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Rifampin
Rifampin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Probiotics interacts with.
Many probiotics are bacteria. Since these preparations usually contain live and active organisms, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of sensitive organisms. Human research shows that taking probiotic concurrently with antibiotic treatment does not affect the diversity of the gut microbiome compared with antibiotic treatment in the absence of probiotics. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and these preparations by at least two hours.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the thing to know about pairing probiotics with rifampin: it's the probiotic, not your TB medicine, that may lose out. Rifampin is an antibiotic, so it kills bacteria. Most probiotics are live bacteria, which means taking them at the same moment could knock out a good chunk of those friendly microbes before they ever get to work.
This won't change how well rifampin treats your infection, and it won't add side effects. The simple fix is timing. Try to space your probiotic and your rifampin dose by at least two hours so the antibiotic isn't sitting on top of the live cultures. Honestly, this is a gentle, theory-based concern, so check with your pharmacist if you want a routine that fits your schedule.

About Probiotics
What is Probiotics?
- Digestive health and regularity
- Antibiotic-associated diarrhea
- Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
- Vaginal and urinary health
- Immune support
- General gut microbiome balance
Probiotics are live 'friendly' microbes that may help certain digestive conditions, such as antibiotic-associated diarrhea and some cases of IBS, though benefits depend heavily on the specific strain and dose. They are generally well tolerated for healthy people but should be used with caution by those with serious illness or weakened immune systems. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor to pick a product that matches your goal.
About Rifampin
What Is Rifampin Used For?
Brand names: Rifadin, Rimactane, Rifadin Injection, Rofactor
Rifampin treats all forms of tuberculosis (TB). It is almost always used in combination with other antibiotics — your doctor will build a multi-drug regimen tailored to your infection. Treatment usually runs for at least 6 months total.
Rifampin is also used to clear Neisseria meningitidis bacteria from the nose and throat in people who carry the germ without being sick themselves. It is not used to treat active meningococcal disease. The intravenous (IV) forms — Rifadin IV, Rifadin IV NOVAPLUS, and the injectable form of Rifampin — are specifically indicated when a patient cannot take the drug by mouth.

Rifampin Is Linked to Lower Levels of 8 Nutrients
Natural Medicines records Rifampin as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Probiotics — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
