Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
Why this applies to Isavuconazonium Sulfate (oral)
Isavuconazonium Sulfate (oral) falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Lime interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for Cresemba (isavuconazonium). Your body clears this antifungal partly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Some lab and animal studies suggest that natural compounds in lime juice can slow that same enzyme down. If that happened in people, the drug could clear a bit slower and build up, which might mean more of its typical side effects, like nausea, headache, low potassium, or an upset stomach.
That said, this is based only on animal research using high doses of lime juice, so the real-world risk from normal food amounts is likely small and unproven. A slice of lime in your water or on your food isn't something I'd worry about. If you're thinking about concentrated lime supplements or lots of lime juice while on this medication, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first.
