Linden and Rivaroxaban

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Rivaroxaban and Linden in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Rivaroxaban

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Rivaroxaban is filed under 5 classifications — including anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs, p-glycoprotein substrates, cytochrome p450 3a4 (cyp3a4) substrates. Linden has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being lithium (moderate) — and none of Rivaroxaban’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What to actually watch for

What Linden Itself Has Been Linked To

This is not an interaction — nothing below involves Rivaroxaban. It is the side-effect record for Linden on its own, from the licensed Natural Medicines monograph. If something new turns up after you add Linden, this list is the first place to look. One entry is worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Hives / An allergic reaction Worth acting on Additional detail

“Orally, there is one case report of allergic reaction to linden pollen in a linden flower tea (12). Topically, there is one case report of contact urticaria following the use of a linden extract-containing shampoo (12).”

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Linden — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Rivaroxaban’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Rivaroxaban column appears here.

See Every Supplement That Interacts With Rivaroxaban

This page covers Linden only. If you take other supplements — a multivitamin, a sleep aid, something for joints — the Rivaroxaban page lists 285 supplements it has a documented interaction with, worst first, each one explained.

The most serious there right now: Activated Charcoal (major), Danshen (major), Grapefruit (major), Piracetam (major) and St. John's Wort (major).

By severity: 5 major · 240 moderate · 40 minor.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Rivaroxaban page

“Grapefruit is the interaction I would flag first for anyone taking rivaroxaban (Xarelto). It slows how the body clears this blood thinner, and higher levels mean more bleeding risk.”

About Linden

What is Linden?

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Trouble sleeping
  • Colds and flu symptoms
  • Cough and sore throat
  • Mild digestive upset
  • Promoting sweating during fever

Linden (also called lime flower) is a traditional herbal tea long used to calm nerves, ease cold symptoms, and support restful sleep. Strong human evidence for these uses is lacking, but the flowers are generally considered safe as an occasional tea for most healthy adults. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it regularly, especially during pregnancy, breastfeeding, or if you have a health condition.

Tilia cordata, Tilia platyphyllos · Malvaceae · Dried flowers (and bracts), sometimes leaves · Tea (infusion), tincture, liquid extract, capsules

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Linden is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Linden record says about it on its own.

Linden: dosing

There is no official standardized dose for linden. Traditionally it is taken as a tea made by steeping a small amount of the dried flowers in hot water, often once or a few times a day.Because products vary in strength, the best approach is to follow the directions on the product label.

About Rivaroxaban

What Is Rivaroxaban Used For?

Brand name: Xarelto

Rivaroxaban helps prevent and treat harmful blood clots. Across products, adults use it to lower stroke risk in nonvalvular atrial fibrillation, treat deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), and lower the chance those clots come back.

Rivaroxaban tablets are also used to prevent DVT after hip or knee replacement surgery and to prevent venous thromboembolism (VTE) in acutely ill medical patients. With aspirin, they reduce major cardiovascular events in coronary artery disease (CAD) and major thrombotic vascular events in peripheral artery disease (PAD). Children use it too: rivaroxaban for oral suspension (and Xarelto and Rivaroxaban tablets) is for VTE treatment and recurrence prevention from birth to under 18 years, and for clot prevention in children 2 and older with congenital heart disease after the Fontan procedure.
