Meprobamate falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Magnolia interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of large doses of magnolia bark and CNS depressants might have additive effects.
In vitro and animal research shows that constituents extracted from magnolia bark, especially honokiol and magnolol, have sedative effects. These effects may be due to the inhibition of catecholamine release and modulation of gamma-aminobutyric acid-A (GABA-A) receptors.

Here's the simple version: meprobamate already works by calming brain activity to ease anxiety, and magnolia bark may add to that calming effect. Lab and animal studies suggest magnolia's active pieces (honokiol and magnolol) gently nudge the same GABA pathways that sedatives lean on. Put them together, especially at higher supplement doses, and you could feel more drowsy, dizzy, foggy-headed, or unsteady than you'd expect from your meprobamate alone.

To be honest, this is a theoretical concern based on test-tube and animal work, not strong human studies, so I wouldn't panic. Small amounts likely matter less than concentrated capsules. Still, before pairing them, please check with your pharmacist or doctor so they can weigh it for you.

Meprobamate tablets are used to manage anxiety disorders or to provide short-term relief of anxiety symptoms. It is intended for anxiety that rises to the level of a disorder — everyday stress and tension that most people experience generally do not require this type of medication.
