Hexobarbital falls under CNS DEPRESSANTS — the group Magnolia interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of large doses of magnolia bark and CNS depressants might have additive effects.
In vitro and animal research shows that constituents extracted from magnolia bark, especially honokiol and magnolol, have sedative effects. These effects may be due to the inhibition of catecholamine release and modulation of gamma-aminobutyric acid-A (GABA-A) receptors.

Hexobarbital is a barbiturate, an older sleep and sedative medicine that calms the brain and nervous system. Magnolia bark contains honokiol and magnolol, compounds that may also have a calming effect, partly by acting on the same GABA pathways your barbiturate works on. When two things both slow the brain down, their effects can stack up.

In plain terms, pairing a concentrated magnolia supplement with hexobarbital could leave you more drowsy, dizzy, or foggy than expected, with slower breathing in larger combinations. Keep in mind this caution comes only from lab and animal studies, not human trials, so it's a theoretical concern rather than a proven one. Still, please check with your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.
