Some Diroximel Fumarate Products Have a Food Rule — Malic Acid Should Not Break It

At least one FDA label for a product containing Diroximel Fumarate says to take it with food. If you take Malic Acid on an empty stomach out of habit, keep them separate — and take Diroximel Fumarate with a meal where the label says to.

This may not be true of your version. Food instructions belong to the product, not the ingredient: two Diroximel Fumarate products can carry different directions, and extended-release forms often differ from immediate-release ones. The label we read is quoted below — check the directions on your own box or bottle, or ask your pharmacist, for how to take the exact product you were given.

If taken with food, avoid a high-fat, high-calorie meal/snack; the meal/snack should contain no more than 700 calories and no more than 30 g fat [see Warnings and Precautions ( 5.6 ) and Clinical Pharmacology ( 12.3 )] .

This includes three specific types: clinically isolated syndrome (a first MS episode), relapsing-remitting MS (the most common pattern of flares and recovery), and active secondary progressive MS (a later stage where disability gradually worsens but relapses still occur).
