Animal research suggests that high doses of Manchurian thorn can induce liver damage. Theoretically, concomitant use with other potentially hepatotoxic drugs might increase the risk of developing liver damage.

Here's the concern with pairing Manchurian Thorn and naltrexone. Both can be tough on the liver. Naltrexone is already known to sometimes bump up liver enzymes, especially at higher doses, and animal studies hint that large amounts of Manchurian Thorn may stress the liver too. Put them together and, in theory, you could add to that burden.

I'll be honest with you: this is a theoretical caution based mostly on lab and animal work, not solid human proof, so please don't panic. Still, since your doctor likely checks your liver while you're on naltrexone, it's worth mentioning this supplement to them. Watch for yellowing skin or eyes, dark urine, belly pain, or unusual tiredness, and let your pharmacist or doctor know before combining the two.

Naltrexone Hydrochloride tablets are used to treat alcohol dependence and to block the effects of opioids in people with opioid dependence. The extended-release injectable suspension — sold as Vivitrol and also available as a generic injectable — is used to treat alcohol dependence and to prevent relapse to opioid dependence after a person has completed opioid detoxification.

All formulations are meant to be part of a broader treatment plan that includes counseling and other support — naltrexone works best when it is not used alone.
