Bevacizumab falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Marshmallow interacts with.

Theoretically, mucilage in marshmallow might impair absorption of oral drugs.
Marshmallow contains mucilage which can affect oral drug absorption. To avoid changes in absorption, take marshmallow 30-60 minutes after oral medications.

Here's some reassuring news: this listed interaction is really about oral medicines, and bevacizumab (Avastin) isn't one of them. It's given as an infusion straight into your vein at an infusion center, so it never travels through your stomach or intestines where marshmallow's slippery mucilage gel does its thing. That gel can coat the gut and slow down how some swallowed pills are absorbed, but it has no realistic way to affect a drug delivered by IV.

So for bevacizumab specifically, I wouldn't expect marshmallow to change how well it works or its side effects. That said, cancer treatment often involves several medicines at once, so it's always worth running any supplement past your oncology team or pharmacist first.

About Bevacizumab Injection

What Is Bevacizumab Injection Used For?

Brand name: Avastin

Avastin, Avzivi, and JOBEVNE are brand names for bevacizumab injection, used to treat multiple types of cancer. Avastin is indicated for metastatic colorectal cancer, non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer, recurrent glioblastoma (a type of brain tumor) in adults, metastatic renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer), persistent or metastatic cervical cancer, epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer, and unresectable or metastatic hepatocellular carcinoma (liver cancer).

These treatments are typically used in combination with chemotherapy, though in some settings bevacizumab is given as a single agent. Avastin is not indicated for adjuvant (preventive post-surgery) treatment of colon cancer.
