Here's the simple version: Clobazam (Onfi, Sympazan) already slows down activity in the brain to calm seizures, and a common side effect is sleepiness. Oregon grape contains berberine, and in animal studies that compound showed mild sedative effects of its own. So the worry is that stacking them could leave you extra drowsy, foggy, dizzy, or unsteady on your feet.

I want to be honest about the evidence, though. This is theoretical and comes only from lab and animal research, not from people taking the two together, so it may not amount to much in real life. Still, since clobazam itself can be quite sedating, please run it by your pharmacist or neurologist before adding Oregon grape, and don't change your seizure medicine on your own.

What Is Clobazam Used For?

Clobazam is used as an add-on (adjunctive) treatment for seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), a severe form of childhood-onset epilepsy. It is approved for patients 2 years of age and older.

This indication applies to all available forms: Sympazan (dissolving oral film), Onfi (tablets and oral suspension), and generic clobazam tablets and oral suspension.
