Clobazam falls under BENZODIAZEPINES — the group Grapefruit interacts with.

Grapefruit juice might increase blood levels of some oral benzodiazepines, potentially increasing the effects and adverse effects of these drugs.
Clinical research shows that grapefruit juice can increase plasma triazolam concentrations. Repeated consumption of grapefruit juice greatly increases triazolam concentrations and prolongs the half-life, probably due to inhibition of cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). Some studies show that grapefruit juice, particularly when taken in large quantities, reduces the clearance and increases the maximum blood levels, area under the plasma concentration curve (AUC), and duration of effect of midazolam. However, there is no effect on intravenous midazolam. Grapefruit juice has also been shown to increase the maximum blood levels and duration of effect of diazepam, but the clinical significance of this is not known. This interaction does not appear to occur with alprazolam.

Here's the gist: your body relies on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down clobazam. Grapefruit, especially regular glasses of the juice or concentrated amounts, blocks that enzyme. With the cleanup slowed down, more clobazam can linger in your bloodstream than expected.

For a seizure medicine like clobazam, that buildup could mean stronger sedative effects, things like extra drowsiness, dizziness, trouble with coordination, slurred speech, or feeling unusually foggy. The interaction is rated as a major one for benzodiazepines, though the strongest research is on related drugs rather than clobazam itself. An occasional bite of grapefruit is far less concerning than drinking the juice often. Please don't change anything on your own; just check with your pharmacist or doctor about whether grapefruit fits with your routine.

What Is Clobazam Used For?

Clobazam is used as an add-on (adjunctive) treatment for seizures linked to Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), a severe form of childhood-onset epilepsy. It is approved for patients 2 years of age and older.

This indication applies to all available forms: Sympazan (dissolving oral film), Onfi (tablets and oral suspension), and generic clobazam tablets and oral suspension.
