Pleurisy Root + Losartan Potassium
Losartan Potassium brand name: Cozaar.
We found no known interaction between Pleurisy Root and Losartan Potassium in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.
Pleurisy Root and Losartan Potassium
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Losartan Potassium and Pleurisy Root in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Pregnancy & breastfeeding ratings are from Natural Medicines (Therapeutic Research Center) — the full detail is in the Special populations card below. Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.
Why No Interaction Is Listed for Losartan Potassium
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Losartan Potassium is filed under 7 classifications — including angiotensin receptor blockers (arbs), cytochrome p450 2c9 (cyp2c9) substrates, antihypertensive drugs. Pleurisy Root has documented interactions with 3 drug classes — the most serious being digoxin (lanoxin) (major), diuretic drugs (moderate) and estrogens (moderate) — and none of Losartan Potassium’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

About Pleurisy Root
What is Pleurisy Root?
- Respiratory congestion
- Pleurisy and chest discomfort
- Coughs and bronchitis
- Promoting sweating during fevers
- Loosening mucus
Pleurisy root is the dried root of Asclepias tuberosa (butterfly weed), a plant used in traditional North American and herbal medicine mainly for respiratory complaints. There is very little modern scientific evidence that it works for any condition, and it contains compounds that can be toxic, so caution is strongly advised. Pregnant and breastfeeding people should avoid it, and anyone considering it should check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Pleurisy Root is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Pleurisy Root record says about it on its own.
Pleurisy Root: dosing
There is no well-established or standardized dose for pleurisy root, and the strength of products can vary widely. Because of its potential toxicity, more is not better and self-dosing can be risky. If you choose to use a commercial product, follow the directions on the label and do not exceed them.

About Losartan
What Is Losartan Used For?
Brand name: Cozaar
Losartan treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older. Keeping blood pressure under control lowers the risk of serious events like stroke and heart attack.
It is also used to reduce the risk of stroke in people who have high blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy (an enlarged heart muscle). Note: evidence suggests this stroke-risk benefit may not apply to Black patients. Additionally, losartan treats diabetic nephropathy — kidney damage caused by type 2 diabetes — in people who also have high blood pressure.

Losartan Potassium Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Losartan Potassium as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Pleurisy Root — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
