Raw Food Diet and Acitretin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Acitretin and Raw Food Diet in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — research on Raw Food Diet alongside specific medications may be limited.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Raw Food Diet at all — not against Acitretin, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

Raw Food Diet is an eating pattern rather than something you take. Ask your pharmacist or doctor before changing how you eat while on a prescribed medicine: some medicines are dosed around meals, and a change in diet can change how they work. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

Everything above comes from the Natural Medicines adverse-effect record for Raw Food Diet — expand a row for the licensed statement it rests on. We read the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Acitretin’s FDA label too, and the two lists don’t meaningfully overlap — which is why no Acitretin column appears here.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Acitretin page

“A course of Acitretin (Soriatane) for severe psoriasis runs for months, long enough for a multivitamin or detox product to slip in unexamined, and with this drug that carelessness carries real risk. Two of the 53 interacting ingredients are rated major.”

About Raw Food Diet

What is Raw Food Diet?

  • Weight loss
  • Improving digestion
  • Increasing fruit and vegetable intake
  • General wellness and detox
  • Lowering cholesterol

A raw food diet emphasizes uncooked, unprocessed plant foods (and sometimes raw animal products) based on the idea that cooking destroys nutrients and enzymes. It can boost intake of fruits and vegetables and help with weight loss, but it carries real risks of nutrient deficiencies and foodborne illness. Talk with a doctor or dietitian before trying it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a health condition.

Whole eating pattern based on uncooked or minimally heated plant foods, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and sprouted grains

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Raw Food Diet is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Raw Food Diet record says about it on its own.

Raw Food Diet: dosing

Because a raw food diet is an eating pattern and not a pill, there is no standardized 'dose.' Plans vary widely—some people eat 100% raw, while others aim for 75% or 50% raw and cook the rest.If you want to try it, a safer approach is to add more raw fruits and vegetables to your meals rather than switching to fully raw all at once. Working with a registered dietitian helps you plan for protein, vitamin B12, vitamin D, calcium, iron, and omega-3 fats, and may include supplements to fill gaps.

About Acitretin

What Is Acitretin Used For?

Brand name: Soriatane

Acitretin capsules are approved to treat severe psoriasis in adults. It is typically reserved for patients whose psoriasis has not responded to other treatments, or when other treatments are not appropriate options.

Because of serious risks — including the risk of severe birth defects — acitretin is not a first-line choice. In women who could become pregnant, it should only be used when the benefits clearly outweigh the risks and strict pregnancy-prevention measures are in place.
