Raw Food Diet + Gabapentin

Gabapentin brand names: Neurontin, Gralise.

No Known Interaction
The bottom line No known interaction

We found no known interaction between Raw Food Diet and Gabapentin in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first. Additionally, although there is no interaction, the two are separately associated with some of the same side effects, which would make a new symptom harder to attribute to one or the other.

Raw Food Diet and Gabapentin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Gabapentin and Raw Food Diet in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — research on Raw Food Diet alongside specific medications may be limited.

Worth understanding: our licensed dataset holds no drug-interaction record for Raw Food Diet at all — not against Gabapentin, and not against any other medication we track. This verdict therefore rests on the absence of any recorded data, not on research that looked at this combination and found nothing. We cannot rule an interaction out.

Raw Food Diet is an eating pattern rather than something you take. Ask your pharmacist or doctor before changing how you eat while on a prescribed medicine: some medicines are dosed around meals, and a change in diet can change how they work. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

No Interaction Found — But Data Suggests Raw Food Diet and Gabapentin May Share Several of the Same Side Effects

This is not an interaction. Neither one changes how your body handles the other, and nothing here says they react together. What our sources do show is that each has separately been linked to the effects below — so following Raw Food Diet while taking the medicine can make those effects more likely to turn up, and harder to pin on one or the other if they do.

Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 361,481 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Gabapentin that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Wording is matched across sources by our own clinical vocabulary, so treat this as a prompt to pay attention, not a diagnosis.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Gabapentin page

“Gabapentin (Neurontin, Gralise) calms overactive nerves, which means it already slows your nervous system down, and that is exactly what 78 of the 106 supplements on this list also do. So the dominant risk here is sedation stacked on sedation, extra drowsiness at best and dangerously slowed breathing at worst, and with seven entries ra…”

About Raw Food Diet

What is Raw Food Diet?

  • Weight loss
  • Improving digestion
  • Increasing fruit and vegetable intake
  • General wellness and detox
  • Lowering cholesterol

A raw food diet emphasizes uncooked, unprocessed plant foods (and sometimes raw animal products) based on the idea that cooking destroys nutrients and enzymes. It can boost intake of fruits and vegetables and help with weight loss, but it carries real risks of nutrient deficiencies and foodborne illness. Talk with a doctor or dietitian before trying it, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have a health condition.

Whole eating pattern based on uncooked or minimally heated plant foods, fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and sprouted grains

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Raw Food Diet is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Raw Food Diet record says about it on its own.

Raw Food Diet: dosing

Because a raw food diet is an eating pattern and not a pill, there is no standardized 'dose.' Plans vary widely—some people eat 100% raw, while others aim for 75% or 50% raw and cook the rest.If you want to try it, a safer approach is to add more raw fruits and vegetables to your meals rather than switching to fully raw all at once. Working with a registered dietitian helps you plan for protein, vitamin B12, vitamin D, calcium, iron, and omega-3 fats, and may include supplements to fill gaps.

About Gabapentin

What Is Gabapentin Used For?

Brand names: Neurontin, Gralise

Gabapentin (brands include Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, Gralise, and Horizant) is primarily used to manage postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) — the nerve pain that lingers after a shingles outbreak — in adults. Neurontin, Relgaabi, Gabarone, and gabapentin capsules, tablets, and oral solution are also used as add-on therapy for partial onset seizures (a type of epilepsy) in adults and children aged 3 and older.

Horizant (gabapentin enacarbil extended-release tablet) has two specific approvals: treatment of moderate-to-severe primary restless legs syndrome (RLS) in adults, and management of postherpetic neuralgia in adults. Horizant is not recommended for people who need to sleep during the day and stay awake at night. Gralise is approved only for postherpetic neuralgia and cannot be substituted for other gabapentin products due to its different release profile.

Most-Reported Side Effects for Gabapentin
