Red Sandalwood and Bleomycin

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Bleomycin and Red Sandalwood in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Bleomycin

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Bleomycin is filed under 2 classifications — antitumor antibiotics, oral drugs. Red Sandalwood has documented interactions with 2 drug classes — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (moderate) and lithium (moderate) — and none of Bleomycin’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Bleomycin. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 10,271 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Bleomycin that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Red Sandalwood’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Red Sandalwood side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Red Sandalwood has no side effects.

  • Coloring and flavoring agent

Red Sandalwood (Pterocarpus santalinus) is a hardwood used in traditional medicine and in skin and cosmetic preparations, valued for its red pigment and astringent properties. Solid human evidence for its health benefits is very limited, and most claims come from traditional use or laboratory studies. If you want to try it, talk with your pharmacist or doctor first, especially before taking it internally.

About Bleomycin

What Is Bleomycin Used For?

Brand name: Blenoxane

Bleomycin injection is used as a palliative (disease-managing, not curative) treatment for several cancers. It can be used alone or combined with other chemotherapy drugs to treat squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck (including the mouth, tongue, tonsil, larynx, and other sites), as well as squamous cell carcinomas of the penis, cervix, and vulva. It also treats Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and testicular carcinoma (including embryonal cell, choriocarcinoma, and teratocarcinoma subtypes).

When given as an intrapleural injection (directly into the chest cavity), Bleomycin acts as a sclerosing agent — it seals off the space around the lungs to treat malignant pleural effusion and help prevent fluid from coming back.

Most-Reported Side Effects for Bleomycin
